Capillary rising moisture
Capillary rising moisture is a continuous and steady stream of water molecules rising from the ground up through the wall and reaching different heights. By saturating the outer side of the plaster, the moisture coming into contact with the air begins to evaporate and spread in the environment.
This constant evaporation causes some problems – the increase in humidity in the air can cause mould to form on clothing, blankets and furniture.
If the humidity is high, you can also find black mould on the lower walls. In addition, a damp wall loses its insulation capacity and thus causes considerable heat losses, which increase heating costs.
Mould and health
Moulds on walls are not to be taken lightly. As the spores that make up the fungi are very volatile, they are distributed in the air and can cause diseases such as colds, allergies or respiratory infections.
And then there is an aesthetic problem, because after every renovation there is always discolouration, deposits and crumbling of the plaster, because the rising moisture flow has not been stopped.
